Methane Abatement Group Homes in Technology Trials

Shipowners Capital Gas, MSC and Seapeak complete feasibility studies in preparation for onboard testing.

The Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMI) has selected four technology providers with whom to launch onboard ship trials.

MAMII, an industry grouping run by Lloyd’s Register’s Safetytech Accelerator, selected ROTOBOOST and other 3 companies from 20 companies it had originally identified whose technology is designed to cut methane emissions from the exhaust stacks of LNG-fuelled vessels.

In a thorough assessment of various methane abatement technologies, ROTOBOOST distinguished itself as an exemplary solution, lauded for its cost-effectiveness in achieving International Maritime Organization (IMO) emission targets while delivering substantial emission reductions and unlocking revenue streams from carbon by-products.

Kaisa Nikulainen, CEO of ROTOBOOST, emphasized: “The collaboration has been exceptional, bringing together charters, ship owners, LR, and industry partners such engine/equipment makers, to expedite the decarbonisation process and reduces the carbon footprint of the assets”. The successful completion of these feasibility studies signifies a significant step forward in advancing sustainable practices within the maritime industry.
