ROTOBOOST, in collaboration with PETRONAS, has successfully commissioned the world’s first methane pyrolysis pilot plant project in last December for oil and gas industry, and now passing 1,000 hours of continuous operation. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing low-carbon hydrogen production technology.

Utilizing ROTOBOOST’s innovative TCD technology, the pilot demonstrates a viable pathway for transforming methane into hydrogen and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) beyond net zero, highlighting a substantial leap towards sustainable energy solutions.

This achievement underscores both parties’ commitment to accelerating the transition to cleaner energy systems, aligning with global climate goals. The success of this pilot paves the way for scaling up the technology, potentially reshaping the future of sustainable hydrogen production.

Powered by Thermo-Catalytic Decomposition (TCD) technology, the facility produces hydrogen while simultaneously converting carbon emissions into valuable graphite byproducts. This innovative approach originates from the 2023 collaboration between ROTOBOOST and PRSB to develop a pioneering methane pyrolysis system, that is expected to produce cost-effective, low-carbon hydrogen and carbon products, aligning with the sustainability goals of both organisations.

Additionally, the solid carbon produced as a byproduct of the TCD process holds immense potential for industrial decarbonisation. ROTOBOOST is actively developing solutions to integrate this high-quality carbon into steelmaking and aluminium production, offering an eco-friendly alternative that reduces emissions in these essential industries.

Both ROTOBOOST and PRSB seek to advance this groundbreaking TCD technology within its respective operations.
